Content, part 2
In part 1 of this series on Content, we discussed methods for gathering lots of quality content for your sites. Remember, not only does good content attract and hold visitors, but it's also the best search engine bait.
Now it's time to move on to
Step 2: Post Content
What about getting your content online? Sure, you can copy an article and paste it onto a web page. But that takes a long time - especially if you want to post several hundred pages.
Enter the age of automation. Automated tools take your content and automatically build entire sites from it. In just minutes, instead of days. Here are a couple of tools that I've started using.
Sonic Page Builder (http://www.tamertips.com/spb.htm ) takes your content, breaks it into 300 word chunks and creates a series of pages. Within seconds! Of course, with the basic setup it just arbitrarily cut off articles every 300 words -and that didn't necessarily please the visitors (although the search engines don't care!) So I wrote to the author and asked him how to make meaningful articles.
He suggested I use a special character, such as ^B to put a break exactly where I wanted it - and then tell the engine about the break as I generated the pages. Voila! Finished pages, quickly. Yes, it took a few more minutes to put the special characters in, but it made all the difference. Checkout http://www.AutopilotSecrets.com/building (It's a work in progress, so not all the surrounding links work.)
One of my favorite tools is Traffic on Steroids.(I know, it sounds a little shady, but it's really good!) This tool takes a little more work because you have to put your content into a web page format. But you only have to do that once for each article.
Once your articles are in the right fromat, you set up groups of pages. Group 1, for example, might include articles 1-8; Group 2 would have articles 7-12. Then you set the groups to rotate. You might choose to show a new article from group 1 each time a visitor comes to your web page. And change the content in Group 2 once an hour or once a day.Within a single website, you could have multiple sets of content running, with some of it changing daily and others hourly.
The advantage of rotating content is that to a search engine it appears fresh, so they visit more frequently. And the more frequently they visit, the better your rankings. And the better your rankings, the more visits you get. And you see the pattern!
The other advantage to rotating content is that you can have fewer articles than pages. Even if you only have 3 articles as I do at http://www.game-room-resources.com your pages are still full.

Regardless of the way you choose to publish your content, the new tools really make it easier, so give them a try. If I could only choose one of the two above - it would be Traffic on Steroids.
Next time, we'll talk about Step 3 - to complete the content process.
