Why #1 in the search engines may be harder than you thought

by Jeanette Cates

It was December, 2004 and I had several sites doing well in search engine rankings. In fact, I had generated enough income to pay my mortgage payment from just one of them! Life was good.

And that's when it happened. My site disappeared from the search engines!

I frantically began doing everything I knew - I checked the server to be sure it was working. I revised the code. I revisited my keywords. I spent hours doing everything I could think of to "revive" my site. But two weeks later it was still missing from the search engines.

That's when I turned to the one person I knew could help. I called him and spent the next two and a half hours having my eyes opened about what "really" goes on behind the scenes.

He revealed secrets to me that day that blew my mind. Insider secrets about how some marketers are using high-end programming to beat the traditional methods of marketing. It took me several more weeks to digest them all.

Meanwhile, he and I started talking about the value of that information. Whether or not it could be revealed to other marketers in a way that would not take away his competitive advantage - but still give others an insight into what their competition is doing. It was a tough assignment.

That's why I was blown away when my friend called a couple weeks ago and said he was setting up a site to reveal many of the techniques we discussed. Frankly, I asked him "why?!" and he told me what I've told you: That it's time "regular people" see what is really going on and what your competition is doing.

You can see the first technique he reveals at

In all fairness, not everyone agrees with some of the techniques he's revealed. In fact, many people consider them "cheating." But here's the point of my sharing this information with you: When you realize what you're up against with some of the sophisticated tools that are used, you realize that it's not a matter of having a site that's good enough to be #1. It's more about knowing your competition and what they're doing so that you can gain a realistic perspective of your place online. And knowing some of these things, you realize that not everything is as "easy" and straight forward as you've been led to believe.

Take a few minutes to review this information, then decide for yourself whether or not it's worth your time to stay in touch with what your competition is doing.

P.S. Did I ever revive my site? No, but I turned my energies to replicating the techniques on other sites and made even more profit the next month!
