Jeanette Cates here with an article on consistency. It's a subject that all of us (yours truly included!) need to pay more attention to. You can read it below.
I know that this is last minute, but I've been experimenting with an Adsense system I purchased Friday. It looks very promising - and it's one of those whose price goes up daily. So if you're into creating passive revenue sites, go over to

This week's article outlines five techniques to:
- solve the forgotten password problem
- save you from searching for past receipts
- get your email delivered
and more!
Read it below!
I'm off to the Big Seminar - so if you're planning to be there, be sure to come up and say "hi" - I love visiting face-to-face!

Consistency Equals Relationships Plus Profits
by Jeanette S Cates, PhD
In the world of the Internet and technology, one thing is constant - change. That's why consistency is so important when it comes to your online business. It's the one stable piece in the equation.
Here are five things that should be consistent in your online world:
- Your email address
You need a single point of contact that remains constant. I have had the same email address for nearly ten years. People know they can count on my remaining consistent. And yes,I do still hear from clients I worked with several years ago!
So while you may find it convenient to use a hotmail or yahoo address, it won't help in building a sense of permanence for your business. Get an email address at your domain and stick with it.
- Your "from" email address
With the growing email delivery issues, you want to narrow the chances of getting caught in a filter by using a consistent name and "from" email address in every message you send.
At one time the style was to make the From line reflect the site or the content of the message. But that means that recipients have to "whitelist" each of those addresses. As a recipient, I'm getting tired of having to whitelist the same marketer day after day because he is not considerate enough to use the same email address.
Instead, use your name and from email address for every email you send, regardless of the site or the list. If you have widely disparate topics, then develop consistency within the topic areas.
For example, I use my name and the main site email address as the from address for all my correspondence. But in my non-Internet marketing topics, I've developed separate email standards, using a single email domain name in each niche.
Just decide what you're going to do and stick with it. It will get a lot more email delivered and irritate fewer recipients.
- Credit cards
Use the same credit card for all of your online purchases. It makes it easy to track and easy to recall.
For example, I made a call to a tech support line this morning on a product I purchased four years ago. For identification purposes they asked for the last four digits of the card I used for the purchase. I knew the answer immediately, instead of having to fumble around trying to find an old receipt.
Extra Tip: Use a rewards card for your purchases. Might as well pay for your next flight to that Internet marketing conference you want to attend with rewards miles.
- Passwords
Unless you use a public terminal or a computer that multiple untrustworthy people share, there is no reason not to save your passwords on your computer.
I have three levels of passwords, depending on how complex I want to make them. As my hint for a password retrieval service, I list basic, medium or high level, instead of my dog's name. Those words trigger the correct password in my mind.
You will need three passwords that are 6-8 characters long and have a combination of letters and numbers in order to cover your bases. Plus you'll need one that is 4-digits for some sites. Armed with those you are ready to log in anywhere!
Extra Tip: If you log into more than 20 sites on a regular basis, I highly recommend RoboForm. It stores the URLs, username and passwords for each of your sites. This is particularly important when you do client work, as I do. I have 20 different logins to the shopping system at any given time, so it's a huge time-saver to have them recorded and ready to click!
- Communication
Establish standards for communicating with your clients, prospects and subscribers.
> Do you use HTML or plain text email from your Outlook program?
> Do you use HTML or plain text for your newsletter?
> How long is your newsletter?
> How often do you send something to your list?
And the list could go on. The important thing is to make the decisions and stick with them. The consistency gives the people you communicate with a sense of safety and comfort - because they know what to expect from you.
By establishing consistent habits you save time and therefore money. By being consistent in your communication you build stronger relationships. And those always translate into bigger profits.
